How do you decide what is true? When we tune into the radio, cable TV, and surf the internet, we encounter a flood of facts, embedded with strongly held, intensely expressed opinions. How do we sift through all that and reach an understanding of truth?
Here in the church, the mystical Gospel of John tells us that Jesus, the Living Word of God, is full of grace and truth (1:14) and that Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (14:6). How fascinating that at the climactic scene of Jesus’ trial before Roman leader Pontius Pilate, Pilate asks Jesus, “What is truth?” (18:33a).
This Sunday, August 24, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., seminarian and chaplain Bentley Stewart will lead us as we explore the nature of truth, and our relationship with it. Our texts will be Psalm 1:1-3 and John 18:33-38a.
